Wales coach Warren Gatland is hoping Twickenham’s changing-room jinx will help his injury ravaged side beat South Africa tomorrow and take them into a second successive World Cup semi-final.

Twickenham hosts two quarter-finals this weekend, both semi-finals and the final on October 31 — and Gatland believes his team have a real advantage after losing the toss and having to use the smaller “away” dressing room.

England, Fiji and Wales themselves have failed to win after using the home dressing room this tournament — and with South Africa the next to walk into the larger of the changing areas, Gatland is looking for any help he can get. “I don’t think anyone’s won in the home dressing room at the moment,” he said. “Hopefully, that’s an omen. I am grabbing anything I can.”

Wales captain Sam Warburton is expecting a torrid forward battle against the 1995 and 2007 champions, who are attempting to become the first team to win the World Cup after losing a Pool game.

“It is always one of the toughest Test matches,” said Warburton. “South Africa don’t really have any weaknesses. It’s about stopping what they are good at.”
