Six Nations 2014: Tuilagi and Yarde make a case to return

Standard Sport3 March 2014

Manu Tuilagi and Marland Yarde hope they have convinced head coach Stuart Lancaster they are ready to return to the England squad for Sunday’s clash with Wales.

Tuilagi showed he was fit after a long absence due to a chest muscle injury and helped Leicester defeat Newcastle 41-18. The centre said: “I was excited to be back and wanted to play the whole 80 minutes. I spoke to Stuart last weekend and he said to come down after the game and train and we’ll see how it goes. If Stuart asks me if I’m ready to play I’ll say ‘absolutely’.”

Yarde had to endure an 18-0 London Irish loss at Exeter but played the whole game on his return from a hip injury. He could be closer to a recall than Tuilagi following wing Johnny May’s failure to score against Ireland in England’s 13-10 when he lost the ball over the line.

Meanwhile, Wales centre Jonathan Davies, who has been out with a chest injury, could feature at Twickenham after returning for Scarlets in the win over Munster on Saturday.
