Saracens wing Chris Ashton can play in Heineken Cup final

Bad shout: Chris Ashton allegedly tried to put off kicker Nick Evans during Saracens victory over Harlequins

Saracens wing Chris Ashton is clear to play in Saturday’s Heineken Cup final after he escaped with a warning for attempting to put off goal kicker Nick Evans in his side’s 31-17 Premiership semi-final win over Harlequins on Saturday.

Gerard McEvilly, the Rugby Football Union’s head of discipline, investigated a claim that Ashton had shouted “push it” at Evans as he was just about to take a conversion at the end of the first half.

Ashton could have been charged with misconduct, which may have led to a ban which would have sidelined him for Saracens’ showdown with Toulon at the Millennium Stadium.

Ashton was not cited for the offence and the RFU warning means he is clear to play.
