Saracens stars Jamie George and Elliot Daly were denied game-time ahead of the Six Nations after the club’s Trailfinders Challenge Cup fixture against Doncaster was cancelled.

The pair were due to play in Saturday’s match alongside Billy Vunipola, who completed 80 minutes in the defeat to Ealing last week.

That will no longer be the case, however, with the game cancelled after two of Saracens’ academy players tested positive for Covid-19 and 16 members of the squad were forced into isolation.

There were fears that positive tests at Saracens could impact England’s Six Nations campaign, which begins on February 6 when they take on Scotland at Twickenham.

Saracens players are expected to make up a large proportion of Eddie Jones’ squad, which will be named later on Friday, but it is understood that none of their England internationals have contracted Covid-19 during this outbreak.

They will, however, have to cope without much game-time following the cancellation of their meeting with Doncaster.

All of Saracens’ England players, bar Billy Vunipola, have not played competitive rugby since last year after the club were relegated from the Premiership to the Championship, which begins in March.
