Kelly Brown denies Saracens are vulnerable going into their Rugby Champions Cup double header with Sale despite their worst run in five years

Sarries have gone three games without a win — drawing at Leicester and losing to Northampton and Exeter — and their scrum has really struggled.

But Brown said: “We have learned a lot of lessons from those three matches. I always think about the saying that ‘sometimes a kick in the teeth can be a good thing’ and I am sure it will help us win games.

“Sale are a very confrontational side with a good scrum and use their driving maul as a key weapon.

“I don’t believe we are more vulnerable as a team although our scrum has not operated in the way we would have hoped in the last couple of weeks. We have always had a good scrum and have picked up on a few minor aspects that need to be improved and they will have a huge effect if we sort them out. I am confident that as a pack we’ll put in a strong performance.”

For Saturday’s match at Sale, the squad is bolstered by the return of England players Owen Farrell, Brad Barritt, George Kruis and Richard Wigglesworth along with the recovery from injury of Billy and Mako Vunipola.

Brown added: “The England boys have come back to the club and are massively upbeat after the very good performance against Australia. That creates a buzz in the whole squad.”
