Harlequins were relieved today to discover that Tim Visser could be back in just five weeks after tearing his hamstring.

The club feared the Scotland wing, who has scored six tries in his debut season at The Stoop, had suffered a worse injury but scans showed he could recover from the grade-two tear in time to play in the Six Nations.

The 23-cap wing will not be ready in time for England’s visit to Murrayfield on February 6 and will have to prove his fitness by turning out for his new club during the Six Nations.

Quins’ director of rugby Conor O’Shea is delighted with the medical report, which means he does not have to consider bringing in any injury cover.

O’Shea said: “Tim could be back in five or six weeks which is great news and with Marland Yarde fit and in contention to play against Saracens this weekend there isn’t any need to think about cover for injury.”

Charlie Walker did his best to prove that Quins have enough wing-cover without Visser in their ranks by scoring a brace of tries at Worcester on Sunday and Yarde will be desperate to catch the eye of new England head coach Eddie Jones, having overcome injury and illness to rejoin the match squad.

Yarde was axed from the initial England World Cup squad and is desperate to prove that he remains one of the best finishers available to Jones.

If Yarde starts on Saturday against champions Saracens, who are unbeaten in the Premiership and Europe this season, he will be up against in-form Chris Ashton who is also hoping a change of England head coach will re-launch his Test career.
