Kyle Sinckler has apologised for being arrested by police following a “minor disorder” during a night out in Auckland just hours after playing in the series decider in New Zealand.

The Harlequins prop was out in the city centre on Sunday night when an incident took place and he was taken by police to the Lions hotel although no charge was made.

Before flying home after a tour that saw the England prop play in all three Tests in the drawn series, Sinckler (below) said: “I apologise for putting myself and the Lions in this position. I also apologise to the police and anyone else affected.”

Sinckler has been reprimanded by tour manager John Spencer, who said in a statement: “We have been informed by Auckland police about an incident involving Kyle.

“I have spoken to Kyle and reminded him of his responsibilities as a Lion, which extend to his off-the-field behaviour.

“Kyle has apologised and we are satisfied that he regrets this incident and that this is the end of the matter.”

Eddie Jones, the England head coach, gave Sinckler his international debut and will not be impressed that one of his players has attracted this kind of publicity.

Sinckler’s arrest comes after the Lions had won friends during the tour and happened six years after England players were castigated for their behaviour in Queenstown during the 2011 World Cup which ended with Manu Tuilagi being spoken to by police for jumping off a ferry into Auckland harbour.

Sinckler spoke during the Lions tour about his attempts to curb a temper that has got him into trouble on the pitch and he was involved in an incident at the end of the Second Test victory with All Blacks scrum-half TJ Perenara.
