London Skolars 48-22 Gateshead Thunder

London Skolars maintained their unbeaten home league record when they secured a 48-22 win against Gateshead Thunder but, make no mistake, this was a hard fought win against a much improved Thunder side.

Ade Adebisi got Skolars off to a great start with a try after two minutes and within minutes Brad Hopkins doubled the host’s lead with the first of a brace of tries for the Australian.

Thunder came back with a converted try of their own and they stayed in touch throughout the first half and only trailed by four points at the break with Skolars taking a 20-16 lead into the second half.

The conditions were unseasonably hot, which made it difficult for both sides, but the second half continued to provide entertainment for the crowd with Skolars not putting any real distance between themselves and the visitors until late in the game.

Ade Adebisi went on to score a hat-trick and pick up the sponsor’s man of the match award. The players man of the match award, sponsored by Laurent Perrier, went to double try scorer Brad Hopkins.

A much needed three points for Skolars as they seek to close the gap on the clubs above them. Skolars are back in action on the June 10 when they host high-flying Workington Town.
