'Friday Night Lights' will kick off Challenge Cup weekend

19 August 2013

Now in its eighth year, ‘Friday Night Lights’ will feature a crucial Kingstone Press Championship 1 side fixture when Skolars host North Wales Crusaders on August 23rd (kickoff 6.30pm), just a day before Wigan Warriors take on Hull FC at Wembley Stadium in one of the sport’s showpiece events, the Tetley’s Challenge Cup Final.

Crusaders will be looking for the win that takes them one step closer to gaining automatic promotion and a defeat without a bonus point would hand promotion to current leaders Oldham. Skolars, having already qualified for the play-offs, will be looking to win their last two games to secure third place and home advantage in the play-offs.

Recent signing Gareth Raynor has settled in really well at Skolars, scoring three tries in his first four appearances. Commenting on the game Raynor said: “I’m really enjoying my rugby again and have rediscovered my appetite for the game. I feel like I’ve settled in with the team and can’t wait for Friday night’s game when I hope to see lots of Hull FC supporters in the crowd, hopefully cheering myself and Skolars on! This is a massive game for both clubs and our win at Hemel has given us a real boost”.

Skolars estimate a crowd well in excess of 1,000, their largest gate of the season. The match will be preceded by a Minis Festival featuring young rugby league players from Skolars and Hemel Stags and a Masters Festival that features Political Animals, a team made up of MPs who play the game. They will take on a London representative Masters side.

Friday Night Lights will once again feature the very popular Real Ale Festival in the Olympic Suite with courtesy buses from sponsors Arriva available to ferry fans to and from the local tube station in Wood Green,

Skolars’ General Manager Howard Kramer had this to say: “Friday Night Lights is a great way to kick-off Challenge Cup weekend and every year we attract Rugby League supporters from all over the country. Since its inception, Friday Night Lights has grown year on year and is an ideal curtain raiser for the main event taking place a few miles away. This year advanced ticket sales are well up on previous years and we anticipate a record crowd for what is a crucial Championship 1 fixture.”

Tickets, priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions (£12 and £6 on the night), can be purchased in advance by contacting the Skolars office on 020 8888 8488 or e-mail info@skolarsrl.com.
