Rose blooms in title chase

Justin Rose shot a first-round 69 in the Sunshine Tour Championship as he looks to take the Order of Merit crown in South Africa.

Rose, who won last week's Nashua Masters and the Dunhill Championship the previous month, is four strokes off the lead held by South African Bradford Vaughan. His main rival for the Order of Merit title, Tim Clark,

Meanwhile, Jesper Parnevik shot a sixunderpar 65 to take the lead in the suspended first round of the Nissan Open in Pacific Palisades.

Jose Maria Olazabal, a winner last week, is one of four golfers tied for second at five-under 66 at the Riviera Country Club.

The round is a boost for Parnevik, who has done no better than 15th in six PGA events this year while missing the cut twice. He said: "I hate playing bad golf. I guess everybody does."
