Rooney out for Wildcats

12 April 2012

Super League high-fliers Wakefield have suffered a major injury blow with the loss of influential stand-off Jamie Rooney for six weeks.

Rooney tore a quad muscle in last weekend's victory over Warrington and, although he saw out the game, the injury is worse than first feared.

The 27-year-old, Super League's second-highest points scorer, has been the main playing inspiration behind the Wildcats' stunning start to the season.

Rooney has scored three tries and kicked 29 goals to help the Belle Vue side, who narrowly avoided relegation last term, to joint top of the engage Super League after seven games.

The Wildcats face London Skolars in the Challenge Cup fourth round this weekend.
