Roger Federer into Wimbledon semi-finals after winning five-set thriller vs Marin Cilic

Roger Federer recovered from going two sets down to beat Marin Cilic on Centre Court and reach the Wimbledon semi-finals.

Federer and Murray - on opposite sides of the draw - were widely expected to face each other in the final following Novak Djokovic's early exit, though Federer was left reeling after a superb display from Cilic on Centre Court.

The 27-year-old Croatian won the first set on a tie-break before taking the second 6-4 to leave Federer in serious trouble, but the Swiss icon rallied to take the third set 6-3.

Cilic held serve to go 5-4 up in a tense fourth set and had match point in the 10th game, but Federer held his nerve and the set went to a tie-break.

Both men traded intense rallies, but Federer proved too strong from the baseline as he recovered to send it to a final set.

And Federer carried on his superb fightback with a dominant display to break Cilic at 4-3 before serving out the match.

Federer's recovery was a blow to Murray's hopes ahead of his quarter-final against Tsonga, with the British No.1 hoping to taste success at Wimbledon for the first time since his 2013 triumph.
