Roeder rage at officials over 'goal'

Glenn Roeder today called for match officials to "be accountable for their mistakes" after West Ham had a first-half Frederic Kanoute 'goal' ruled out when the ball had clearly crossed the line.

West Ham manager Roeder, who remained against the use of a video official, saw his side's sixmatch unbeaten run end with a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal.

Roeder told Standard Sport: "The linesman was adamant when I asked him that the ball hadn't crossed the line but it clearly had. I hope he will be honest enough now to admit he made a bad mistake.

"We're all accountable, so why shouldn't the officials be as well?

"I'm not in favour of video referees, though. Excitement and uncertainty are good for the game, though it didn't do us any good last night."

And Kanoute was sure that had his goal stood, the match would have taken a different course. "It would have been better for our concentration," he said.

But Scottish international team-mate Christian Dailly believed West Ham could take plenty of positives from the defeat, saying: "We played well, and are disappointed to have lost."

West Ham will be without Sebastien Schemmel for the last two games of the season after the French defender fractured a bone in his foot last night.

Roeder also urged the club to resist any summer bids for their high-profile young players like Michael Carrick and Joe Cole, adding: "They are an integral part of our planning."
