Road death sailor must wait

The Danish Olympic sailor facing manslaughter charges over the death of a Briton was expected to resume training today.

Team bosses were due to decide by tonight whether Nicklas Holm would still compete in his event, which officially begins on Sunday.

The Dane was released on bail after spending a night in police cells following the death of Errol Strachan in a road accident-yesterday. The British man was knocked down and killed when he walked into a lane reserved for Olympic officials and athletes.

Holm, 23, passed a blood-alcohol test but could still face charges of manslaughter by negligence and speeding, which he denies.

He has claimed he had no chance to stop when Mr Strachan, who was working in Athens for a catering company, stepped in front of his hired four-wheel-drive Volvo.

Holm was entered in the two-man Star class, meaning that if he drops out his team-mate will also be forced to quit the Games.

Danish team bosses were expected to reach a decision today after speaking to Holm, the son of a multi-millionaire.
