Rivaldo hits the spot for Brazil

14 April 2012

Rivaldo was delighted just to get a game after scoring in Brazil's 1-1 draw away to Peru in their World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

Rivaldo, who has been condemned to the reserves at his Italian club AC Milan, had not played a competitive game since his last outing for Brazil.

"I'm very happy to have played, my last game was against Jamaica on October 12," said Rivaldo, who opened the scoring with a penalty after 21 minutes - his first international goal since the World Cup win over England last year.

"We had a lot of chances and if we had scored maybe it would have been different."

Newcastle's Nolberto Solano headed in an equaliser in the second half for Peru.

Arsenal's Brazilian midfielder Gilberto Silva, who received the first booking of his international career, said: "Peru tried very hard and made life difficult."
