'Rested' Myler needed a break - McRae

12 April 2012

Speculation over the future of Richie Myler is likely to intensify after Salford left their 19-year-old prodigy out of Friday night's loss to Catalans Dragons.

England international Myler, who is contracted until the end of next year but has been heavily linked with a move to Warrington, watched from the stands as the City Reds went down 18-16 in the final minute of a rearranged engage Super League clash at The Willows.

Salford coach Shaun McRae said: "I say he's been rested. Other people use different terms saying sacked or dropped but I think that is harsh."

He added: "Rested is a good way to put it, he is still available for selection and is fully fit. He has been under enormous pressure, I think he needed a break."

McRae claims he is not aware of any interest from other clubs and will continue to treat Myler as a regular member of the squad.

Myler is thought likely to attract a transfer fee in the region of £200,000 if he is to be made available.

"He might know what is going on but I don't know," said McRae. "I hear all the rumour and speculation but I don't know anything."

Salford were beaten by a late Casey McGuire try just three minutes after a Stefan Ratchford penalty looked to have secured a 16-14 win.

Catalans set up the tense finish after fighting back from 14-0 down to draw level with tries from Olivier Elima, Dane Carlaw and Adam Mogg.

The Reds had started well with tries from Craig Stapleton and John Wilshere while Ratchford was on target with three other goals.
