Reid will demand time to fix Leeds problems

Peter Reid will seek a meeting today with Leeds United's under- fire chairman Professor John McKenzie over his uncertain future as Elland Road manager.

Reid left McKenzie to sweat it out yesterday in the wake of reports that he could quit just days after surviving the threat of the sack following six months in charge at the troubled club.

Having steered Leeds to a vital 2-1 win over Blackburn that lifted his team out of the bottom three, Reid is ready to press McKenzie to guarantee time to make progress.

Leeds have identified Nottingham Forest manager Paul Hart as Reid's successor, but stopped short of sacking Reid last week after McKenzie conducted a straw poll of fans' representatives.

If Reid quit, Leeds would not be obliged to pay up his £850,000 one-year rolling contract but would be in turmoil before a run of four tough matches.

McKenzie, who emerged badly from the midweek episode, is due in Japan this week and Reid wants assurances before the visit of Manchester United on October 18.
