Ref cost us match, claim Pau

13 April 2012

Pau turned their anger on Scottish referee Rob Dickson following Saturday's 46-18 Heineken Cup mauling by Leicester at Welford Road.

The French side had prop Pierre Triep-Capdeville red-carded for stamping, were shown three yellow cards and were penalised countless times.

Newcastle and Sale have already complained about the way referees handle Tigers matches this season but Pau coach Jacques Brunel went even further, saying: 'It is always the same against British sides. The referee saw only one side. We always come into these games knowing we have a 12-0 disadvantage before we kick off.' Pau's international hooker Marc Dal Maso was also fuming, saying: 'When British teams break the rules, the referees do not blow the whistle. OK, we committed offences, but so did Leicester. It is sad because when we have to play in England, we know we cannot win.' Triep-Capdeville, a recipient of one of the yellow cards, was later banned for three weeks at a disciplinary hearing and misses Pau's next three Pool Six games this month.

Leicester's Tim Stimpson caused Pau the biggest problems, though, kicking 23 points with his trusty right boot.
