Reds swoop for Wild

Huddersfield's Stephen Wild has been confirmed as Salford's fourth signing for the 2011 Engage Super League season.

The ambitious Reds have already announced the captures of Canterbury's Luke Patten, Bradford's Chris Nero and Warrington's Vinnie Anderson, and have now moved to seal a deal for former Great Britain international Wild on a three-year contract.

The 29-year-old back-row forward, who joined Huddersfield from Wigan in 2006, has appeared in two Challenge Cup finals for the Giants and has made 13 appearances for them this season.

"With me going to Salford, it is quite similar to when I came to Huddersfield," he said.

"They are an ambitious club, especially when you look at the players they have signed, and I am looking to be a part of that.

"The news that they're getting a new stadium is a bonus as well."

Salford will submit detailed plans for their new stadium at Barton next week and director of football Steve Sims believes that, along with the signing of Wild, shows that promising times are ahead for the club.

Sims said: "It's becoming a regular thing to say at the moment but Stephen Wild is another great signing for this club next year. He has tremendous mobility and has a very strong all-round game that will suit what we are trying to achieve here in 2011 and beyond.

"We are building what will be a highly competitive squad over the coming seasons and the people of Salford and the wider region, be they current fans, lapsed supporters or completely new to the sport, will have something they can be proud of watching in a state-of-the-art facility."

The Reds have also moved to tie forward Lee Jewitt to a new three-year contract.
