Redknapp signs new deal

13 April 2012

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has signed a new deal that will keep him at Fratton Park until 2006.

Redknapp, who guided the club to the Barclaycard Premiership, has signed a 12-month extension to his current deal.

"I actually agreed it with the chairman a while ago but got round to signing at the weekend," Redknapp told BBC Sport.

"We have got great supporters and I could not have enjoyed two years more than I have done here - it's been absolutely brilliant."

Redknapp succeeded Graham Rix as Pompey boss in March 2002 and guided them to the First Division title last season.

"When I took over the club was fourth or fifth from bottom of the First Division and had been for the previous six years, so I think I've earned anything I get," he said.

"While I'm enjoying it I'll continue doing it. I enjoy working and enjoy the people I work with and work for."

Chairman Milan Mandaric offered Redknapp the contract extension in a bid to aid Portsmouth's fight against relegation after they dropped into the bottom three following defeat at Everton on Saturday.

Mandaric told the club's official website, www.pompeyfc.premiumtv.co.uk: "This is a tricky pressurised time for the club and I felt it right to show my support and encouragement."
