Harry Redknapp insists he will not let talk of him becoming the next England manager derail his attempt to get Tottenham back in to the Champions League.

Redknapp is the bookmakers' favourite to succeed Fabio Capello when he stands down as England boss next summer having transformed Spurs from relegation contenders to Champions League quarter-finalists since taking over at White Hart Lane in October 2008.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy revealed on Tuesday that Redknapp had given him assurances that he was not "at this present time" thinking about replacing Capello, and the 64-year-old confirmed this, replying when asked where he stood on the prospect of the job: "Nowhere really. I just have a job to do here."

He added: "I just have to get on with my job. That's all I can do. I don't know what will happen at the end of the season, if anything does.

"I don't look that far ahead really. I am not a person who thinks about next year or the year after, (if you do that) you start wishing your life away.

"I am only looking at what I am doing now. I have to keep focused on Tottenham. The only thing that enters my mind is getting them back in the Champions League."

The club's recent record-equalling run has led to talk of them mounting a serious assault on a first league title since 1961.

A renowned expert for unearthing a gem in the transfer market, Redknapp has been linked with a number of players recently, including the likes of Didier Drogba, Leandro Damiao and Gary Cahill.

And although he is happy with his current squad, Redknapp thinks Levy would give him the funds to land a marquee signing in January if he felt it necessary.

The Spurs boss said: "If someone came along who we felt was special, someone who could make the difference, I think we would go for him. The chairman would back me all the way if it was someone who we felt could take us that extra little bit forward."
