Record will fall, vows Bradley Wiggins

Bradley Wiggins is adamant Britain will shatter the team pursuit world record when the star-studded quartet are next reunited.

Wiggins made his first competitive track outing at the weekend since double pursuit gold at the Beijing Olympics.

Competing at the World Cup event in Manchester, Wiggins, along with Geraint Thomas, Ed Clancy and Steven Burke, clocked the fifth quickest pursuit time in history but fell two seconds short of the world record set by Team GB in China in 2008.

"We were a bit disappointed when we looked at the time as there'd been talk of the world record," said the 30-year-old. "But it will come and we'll be the team to beat in London. "

The quartet will not ride together again until October as Wiggins and Thomas return to their day jobs with Team Sky. Wiggins begins his Tour de France preparations in the Paris-Nice stage race from March 6.

Sir Chris Hoy had to make do with a gold and two bronzes in Manchester, while Victoria Pendleton picked up two bronze medals from her three events.
