Rangers run is halted

QPR's 13-game unbeaten run came to an end inside 10 minutes at Port Vale.

Billy Paynter and Steve McPhee gave the home side an early lead they never looked like losing, ending their own run of four straight defeats.

Vale were reduced to 10 men at the start of the second half after Steve Rowland was sent off for a foul on Marcus Bean, but Rangers failed to take advantage.

The only high point for Rangers was the return of Clarke Carlisle following his alcohol-related illness. The 23-year-old went on for Warren Barton at half-time.
