Quins see error of their ways

13 April 2012

Harlequins' 31-25 win over Bristol was riddled with errors by both sides and even the simple things seemed impossible to execute.

The arrival of Australian flanker David Wilson added nothing to the game except his own frustrations. He probably wished he had not made the 12,000-mile journey from Down Under.

A rather uneventful first half saw one try from full-back Dean Dewdney. Bristol scrum-half Augustin Pichot took a quick tap penalty presenting his side with an easy two-on-one chance which the winger finished on 23 minutes.

Seven minutes later Andrew Sheridan had the chance to increase his side's lead as he came charging out of a ruck, leaving himself one-on-one with Ryan O'Neill. The temporary full-back pulled off a try-saving tackle to halt the flying lock.

Winger Ben Gollings kicked three penalties while Bristol kicker Steven Vile kicked two to leave the game poised at half-time 13-9 to the visitors.

Quins returned after the break with a bit more spirit. Six minutes into the half Peter Richards broke through, gaining 35 yards. From the following play Spencer Brown was left on his own with Garrick Morgan who was not to be stopped. Keith Wood, the Quins' captain, quickly followed suit, scampering over from close range leaving several players in his wake.

A couple of moments later substitute Brendan Daniel took advantage of Bristol's attempts to get back on terms and used his pace to score. Gollings converted both tries and Quins were cruising.

However Vile was not giving up and went in search of some Premiership bonus points. He went over five minutes from the end after Leigh Davies punched his way through the tiring Quins defence. Before the game concluded he scored again to gain his side a valuable point.
