Kevin Pietersen scored his first Test century in England for almost three years before two wickets in an over from Praveen Kumar put India back in contention on day two at Lord's.

With a reputation as a man for the big occasions, Pietersen will savour his first hundred since August 2008 - and a fifth ton at the home of cricket - coming in the historic 2000th Test.

Pietersen, who was perhaps lucky not to be out caught on 49, was 106 not out but Praveen removed Ian Bell (45) and Eoin Morgan (nought) in the space of four balls to leave England 270 for five midway through the afternoon session. Replays suggested Morgan, oddly, may not have made contact with the ball despite walking for a caught behind verdict.
