Queen's Derby hope on track

13 April 2012

Right Approach, the Queen's possible Vodafone Derby contender, could make his seasonal reappearance at Sandown on Friday.

The three-year-old son of Machiavellian, who won one race as a juvenile and was placed on his other run, is entered for both the Heathorns Classic Trial and the Heathorns Conditions Stakes.

Both races were reopened, but there were no extra entries for the Group Three Classic Trial while just Far Lane from the Barry Hills yard was added to the Conditions race.

Right Approach cantered on Newmarket's Al Bahatri gallop on Friday with work rider, Kevin Bradshaw, in the saddle.

If connections decided to send the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Right Approach to the 10-furlong Classic Trial they will come up against Mark Johnston's Simeon who is among the nine-strong field. Simeon already has two wins to his credit over one mile and two furlongs this season and Johnston is planning to send his runner to Sandown.

He said: "I haven't had a look at the race yet but he will go there all things being well.

"There are no long term plans - we're just taking one race at a time."
