Powell blames players

Chris Powell believes Charlton's players have only themselves to blame for their failure to qualify for Europe. Alan Curbishley's side can still reach the UEFA Cup via the Fair Play League but a dismal run of three wins in 15 games has put paid to hopes of automatic qualification.

Powell said: "We deserved to be in the higher echelons of the league for a large part of the season, but haven't been able to carry it on. We have to look at ourselves, not anybody else, because it's all about producing the results over 38 games and we've not done that."

Charlton have no new injury worries for tomorrow's clash against Southampton and could have Claus Jensen, Mark Fish and Kevin Lisbie available. Shaun Bartlett and Chris Perry are also pushing for recalls.

Southampton have an injury crisis and may be without 11 of their first-team squad. Antti Niemi (virus) and Claus Lundekvam (ankle) may recover, but Kevin Phillips (stomach) is another player on the doubtful list.
