Pleat's huge cheque out

Spurs fans who viewed last season as a failure will be bemused by the club's version of performance-related pay.

Sacked director of football David Pleat was not only given a £425,000 pay-off when he left last summer, but was also handed a bonus of £149,600.

That took the total package for his final year in charge - which included salary for an eight-month spell as manager - to more than £1million.

Finance director Matthew Collecott said: "He was entitled to a bonus related to wins and draws and that is what the club paid him." Pleat also earned further cash from media work.
