Pinsent could try to emulate Redgrave

13 April 2012

Matthew Pinsent today admitted he may be tempted to match Sir Steve Redgrave's haul of five golds if Britain's coxless four triumph on Saturday week.

Redgrave vowed to retire after his fourth rowing gold in Atlanta but had a change of heart and, at the age of 38, he, Pinsent, James Cracknell and Tim Foster struck gold in Sydney.

Now 33-year-old Pinsent is chasing the fourth gold that may persuade him to battle on to Beijing.

"Before Sydney I was fairly confident I was going to carry on and in the run-up to Athens I am fairly confident I'll retire," Pinsent said today. "But if you've won you're going to feel 'I'm going to do that again'."

"I guess it'll be the beginning of the 'what do I do now' process."
