Pietersen saves England

14 April 2012

Kevin Pietersen fought an almost single-handed battle to salvage a worthwhile total for England A in their second one-day international against India A in Bangalore today.

The tourists, who lost to the same opponents yesterday, were indebted to the Nottinghamshire batsman's 131 out of 228 all out in 46 of their allotted 50 overs. Only Warwickshire all-rounder Graham Wagg (29) and Yorkshire batsman Michael Lumb (24) were able to provide Pietersen with any notable assistance as the innings was undermined by three run-outs.

England were captained again by Kent all-rounder James Tredwell in the continued absence of Alex Gidman, who has a finger injury. But Glamorgan fast bowler Simon Jones was fit at last and hoping to prove his form and wellbeing to join Michael Vaughan's senior team against the West Indies next month.
