Phillips blast at champion Edwards

Britain's new triple jump star Phillips Idowu today launched an extraordinary attack on his rival Jonathan Edwards - the world and Olympic champion.

As the pair prepared to come face to face in tonight's British Grand Prix at Crystal Palace, the British No 2 and Commonwealth silver medallist said that Edwards does not show him enough respect.

Idowu has beaten Edwards once this year but failed to do so at the Commonwealth Games and European Championships.

Despite that Idowu said: "I still don't get the respect from Jonathan that I should. He forgets he has got someone of my calibre from Britain to compete against.

"Jonathan has had it easy in this country for too long. I am only 23 but I was ranked above him earlier this year.

"Now I would like to get some recognition for my achievements. I am younger than him and the further I make him jump week in week out the less his body is going to be able to keep going.

"I jump against him but I have not got too much to say to him."
