Phil Taylor's plea to fans after power cut

13 April 2012

Phil Taylor is hoping for a bumper turn-out at Wembley Arena tonight for the Premier League darts play-offs after a power cut postponed the event yesterday.

The climax to the darts season was due to conclude last night with the semi-finals, third place play-off and final.

However, a power cut in north London, affecting not only Wembley but around 100,000 homes, forced the play-offs to be rearranged just two hours before the 7pm start.

As there was no guarantee electricity would be restored in time to begin play, the Professional Darts Corporation decided to reschedule the event, rather than play it in an empty arena.

Taylor, the four-time Premier League champion, said: "I feel sorry for the fans who travelled to Wembley but hopefully they will be able to come along tonight and enjoy the night.

"This is the first time that this has happened during my career and it's a real shame."

All tickets will be valid for tonight's event, which sees Taylor, defending champion James Wade, Simon Whitlock and Mervyn King battling it out for the £125,000 top prize.
