Perfect 10 for Aussies makes it sweet 16

13 April 2012

Australia surged to a 10-wicket win over India in the First Test in Mumbai today, extending their world record of consecutive Test victories to 16.

India, 58 for two in their second innings overnight, were all out for 219 soon after tea on the third day.

Australia then knocked off the required 47 runs in just seven overs with first-innings centurion Matthew Hayden (28 not out) and Michael Slater (19 not out) completing the job.

Having taken a 173-run first-innings lead, the turning point for Australia came when Sachin Tendulkar was out to Mark Waugh's off-spin for a fine 65.

Tendulkar, having revived the innings in a 97-run third-wicket stand with Rahul Dravid, pulled Waugh and the ball bounced off Justin Langer at forward short leg and Ricky Ponting completed a diving catch at mid-wicket.

Pakistan paceman Shoaib Akhtar has once again been reported to the International Cricket Council for having a suspect bowling action. Sent home from their tour of New Zealand with a leg muscle strain, he now has six weeks to address the problem.
