Pardew wants buzz

The intimidating Upton Park crowd can play a big part in helping West Ham achieve victory in tomorrow night's play-off semi-final second leg, according to manager Alan Pardew.

Ipswich lead 1-0 after the first meeting, but Pardew said: "Upton Park will be jumping. "The Ipswich crowd helped create a good atmosphere on Saturday, but the supporters of an inner-city club like West Ham tend to be a little more aggressive in the right kind of way and we can tap into that.

"Because of everything that has happened, the stadium has been negative at times this season but I don't expect that to happen tomorrow night.

"I was hoping for a night match back at Upton Park for the second leg and that is how it has turned out. Mind you, I am taking nothing for granted. Ipswich are a goal up and they are the favourites. We were a wee bit disappointed with the first match because we didn't play as well as we can particularly with our selection of passes. We feel we can play much better.

"I believe it will be a different type of game. Ipswich have the lead and have to protect it. We both know that, at the end of this match, there has to be a result unlike on Saturday. I think there will be a great deal more urgency about this match."

Pardew may make changes to his line-up, with full-back Rufus Brevett a possibility to come in for what would be only his fourth match of an injuryplagued season.

Brevett has had several reserve team outings in a bid for fitness following a foot injury and now Pardew must decide whether to risk the experienced former QPR and Fulham defender in what is likely to be a high tempo encounter.

Also back in the frame could be midfield player Don Hutchison, who missed the first leg with a groin injury.

Ipswich have drawn one and won four of the last five matches and midfield player Jim Magilton said: "If we can keep them quiet for the first 20 minutes, which we did in the first match, then we will have the slight advantage."

Ipswich have a doubt about defender John McGreal, who has a calf injury.
