Paolo Di Canio's cancelled Italian Job and more movie posters with a football twist

The Italian Job is a classic British caper about a plan to strike gold gone awry.

Sunderland's ill-conceived hiring of the volatile Paolo Di Canio has left the club precariously balanced like the bus which teeters over the cliff at the end of the cult movie.

Perhaps the ex-West Ham striker's coaching methods described by a former employer as 'management by hand grenade' played their part in a disastrous start to the season leading to his sacking this weekend.

The parallels between the Sunderland sacking and the Italian Job inspired our picture editor Gareth Richman to create a host of movie posters with a football twist.
