Pacquiao sees off Mosley challenge

Manny Pacquiao retained the WBO Welterweight World Championship with an unconvincing unanimous points victory over Sugar Shane Mosley in Las Vegas.

Mosley frustrated his opponent but Pacquiao had him on the floor in the third round and that proved decisive. The Filipino also landed more telling punches as Mosley finished the fight having taken more punishment to the face.

Pacquiao, who relied on a counter-punching approach against Mosley who would not be drawn in, took the fight 119-108, 120-108 and 120-107 on the cards of the judges.

But it was an unconvincing performance with both fighters showing too much respect to each other.

The American pushed Pacquiao to the floor in the 10th round, leading to a standing count of eight by the referee, but it was rightly ignored by the judges.

Pacquiao admitted he had not been impressed by his own showing.

He said: "It wasn't my best performance. I did my best. I did not expect this result."

Mosley added: "I fought the best fighter in the world. He has exceptional power, power that I've never been hit like this before."
