Twenty20 England captain Eoin Morgan has hailed Joe Root for his match-winning performance against South Africa on Friday, and said he believes the 25-year-old is the nation's "most complete batsman" ever.

Root inspired England to victory over South Africa by two wickets in the World T20 in India after he hit 83 off 44 deliveries.

The win helped England pull off the second-highest run chase in the history of the tournament and, after the game, Morgan praised Root for helping the nation achieve the feat - saying the Yorkshireman injects the rest of the team with confidence going forwards.

"He's incredible," Morgan told BBC Sport afterwards. "It was a monumental innings.

"His class and composure, knowing he can play as if it was a 50-over game or Test, without changing his game a great deal, gives us huge confidence."

England's next fixture in the competition will be against Afghanistan on Wednesday 23 March before they play Sri Lanka three days later in Delhi.
