Dafne Schippers has declared herself “ready for Rio” ahead of her final race before the Olympics.

The flying Dutchwoman is one of the favourites to win 200 metres gold after clocking the third quickest time in history to be crowned world champion over the distance last season.

Schippers is doubling up with the 100m in Rio but will only race the longer distance at the Anniversary Games in London tomorrow.

Ahead of her final pre-Rio sprint, she said: “This is my last competition before the Olympics and my body is feeling good so I am ready for Rio.” The 24-year-old is already the European champion over the 100m having claimed the title in Amsterdam earlier this month.

Four years ago at the Olympic Stadium, Schippers was competing in the heptathlon finishing 12th behind Jessica Ennis-Hill before successfully turning herself towards sprinting.

“The Olympic Games are special,” said Schippers. “I was in London as a 20-year-old and I was very happy to be there. This time it is different because I’m going for medals.”
