Kevin Mitchell is dreaming of Burns night

Kevin Mitchell: faces Barcelona-based Felix Lora
Joe Lefley10 April 2012

Kevin Mitchell returns to the ring tonight hoping for the kind of performance that will provide him with another shot at becoming world champion.

The Dagenham lightweight was destroyed in three rounds by Aussie Michael Katsidis in his previous attempt at the title in May 2010 but returned strongly to stop John Murray in the eighth round of their fight last July.

Mitchell now faces Barcelona-based Felix Lora over 10 rounds at a sold-out York Hall.

Lora has eight defeats from his 27 fights but the unheralded Dominican has shown himself to be durable, going the distance with former world light welterweight champion Devon Alexander back in 2005.

With a potential clash against Scotland's WBO world champion Ricky Burns in the pipeline, WBO Intercontinental champion Mitchell is desperate to seize the chance to impress. The 27-year-old said: "A fight with Burns is a massive incentive to make sure I'm looking at my best on the night and it's a fight I'd love to have next."

A packed undercard features the professional debut of 2008 Olympian Bradley Saunders, and unbeaten super-middleweight prospect Frank Buglioni, who is looking for his third straight first-round knockout.
