F1: Indian Grand Prix move is okay

31 July 2013

Indian Grand Prix organisers say they are comfortable with the race being moved to earlier in the year, even though it is not their preference.

This year’s Grand Prix, the third in the country, will be held on October 27 at the Buddha International Circuit near New Delhi but will then skip a year before returning in the spring of 2015.

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone plans to shift the Grand Prix to coincide with early season races in Australia, Malaysia, China and Bahrain. It was decided the circuit would struggle to host two in close succession, which is why there will be no Grand Prix in 2014.

Sameer Gaur, chief executive of race organisers Jaypee Sports International Ltd, says they are happy to be flexible.

“October-November period suits us better both weather-wise as well as it being festive season but if they want us to hold our race in March, 2015 we don’t have any problem with that,” said Gaur.
