Could Black Caviar and Frankel create champion the wonder horse?

Unbeaten Australian wonder horse Black Caviar has been retired, sparking speculation that she could one day meet the great Frankel to produce the world’s most valuable offspring.

The seven-year-old sprinter, who won the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot last year — one of 15 wins at Group One level — claimed her 25th and final victory in the TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick last Saturday. Her potential match-up with Frankel would be the talk of racing since the British champion retired last year, also unbeaten after 14 races.

Black Caviar’s trainer Peter Moody said today: “[The] owners and myself had a long chat over the last couple of days and we decided 25 [wins] was a great number to go out on.

“It’s the right time to call it a day on what’s been a wonderful career of one of the finest horses that we have ever seen. We thought about [racing again] at Royal Ascot but we believe she has done everything she can.”

Black Caviar suffered muscle damage during last year’s race at the Royal meeting and did not return to action until February this year, when she won the Lightning Stakes at Flemington.

Last Saturday’s triumph eclipsed Kingston Town’s Australian record of Group One victories and she amassed career earnings of £4.5million.
