Andy Murray magic sparks ATP World Tour Finals ticket rush

Andy Murray’s Wimbledon triumph is set to help create an attendance record at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 in November.

The Finals attracted a record 263,229 fans over eight days last year and organisers are confident a new mark will be set because of the interest generated by Murray’s second Grand Slam triumph and the return of Rafael Nadal, who missed London last year with knee problems.

Chris Kermode, managing director of the Finals, said: “We track ticket sales all year and are way ahead of the 2012 figures.

The total attendance was a record last year and we are hoping to sell the remaining tickets to give us another new figure. Andy’s achievements, plus the return of Rafa, will make this an even more exciting event and we should have the strongest ever field of players for the singles and doubles.”

Murray, Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic and Nadal, the French and US Open winner, have grabbed three of the eight places for the London event, which runs from November 4 to 11.

The five players next in line for the finals are Spain’s David Ferrer, Juan Martin del Potro, of Argentina, Czech Tomas Berdych, Roger Federer and Swiss compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka. Of the remaining events, the Shanghai Masters and Paris Masters next month offer the most ranking points.
