Andy Murray is eager to signal the end of his US Open celebrations by getting down to work against Gael Monfils at the Japan Open this week.

After enjoying a rare break in the wake of his New York triumph, the British No1 is now aiming to regain top form with the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals looming at the start of November.

Murray is the defending champion in Tokyo, where he begins against the world No53 from France.

He said: “I’ve had a few more days to enjoy Tokyo a bit. It’s been fun. I have had four or five days’ complete rest. During the season there’s not many times you can do that. A lot of players at this stage of the year are a bit mentally and physically tired. You need to find the best way of managing for the last couple of months of the year.”
