O'Shea claims final berth

12 April 2012

Tony O'Shea reached his first BDO World Darts Championships final with a tense 6-4 victory over Darryl Fitton at Lakeside Country Club.

O'Shea recovered from 2-1 down to win the next four sets in a row and move to within touching distance of victory against his close friend.

Former undertaker Fitton looked dead and buried at 5-2 down but hit back to win the next two sets and looked like forcing a decider. However, he missed three darts at a double to win the set 3-1, and three more to win it 3-2, before O'Shea finished in style, taking out 76 on the bull.

O'Shea will play Ted Hankey in the final after the former champion beat Martin Adams 6-4 in the second semi-final.

There was never more than one set between the players - who both hit 161 checkouts - until Hankey edged 5-3 ahead, holding his nerve to finish on double two.

Adams hit back in typical fashion to reduce the deficit but Hankey closed out victory in the 10th set to reach his first final since 2001.
