Opening day rained off

The opening day of the fourth and final npower Test between England and West Indies at Chester-le-Street was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Torrential overnight rain meant the outfield was drenched when the teams arrived for what is only the third Test match to be played at the Riverside.

Persistent wet weather led to umpires Aleem Dar and Billy Bowden making a definitive decision at 12.30pm.
