Ominous start for Scolari

Brazil's new coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has already experienced his first hiccup with the national team.

Only 12 of the 22 players picked for the World Cup qualifier in Uruguay on 1 July turned up for what was billed as a vital team-building training camp in the mountain resort of Teresopolis.

European clubs refused to release their representatives, two central defenders were reported doubtful due to injury and left-back Serginho dropped out because of family problems.

Even the team bus broke down on the way from Rio de Janeiro.

Scolari took it in his stride. "Nothing is like we imagine it is going to be. It never will be," he said.
