No way back for Hunter

World shot-put champion C J Hunter, who received a two-year suspension for testing positive for the banned steroid nandrolone, today confirmed that he has retired from athletics.

Hunter, husband of triple Olympic champion Marion Jones, originally announced his retirement during the Sydney Olympics.

He was suspended by US athletics authorities after he chose not to fight doping charges brought against him by the International Amateur Athletic Federation.

Hunter, who tested positive four times last summer for the steroid nandrolone, accepted the ban, but "denies knowingly taking any banned substance" and maintains he is "the victim of an otherwise legal, contaminated supplement."
