No injury worry for Murray

Andy Murray is confident he will be fit to steer Great Britain through their Davis Cup relegation tie against Poland.

Murray, the world number three, will spearhead the nation's attempt to retain their place in Group I of the Euro/Africa Zone over the next three days in Liverpool. Murray recently returned from his disappointing run at the US Open with a wrist injury but he is hopeful the problem is behind him.

The 22-year-old said: "I plan on playing the three days but I will take it one day at a time and see how I am feeling."

The Scot opens the contest on Friday with a singles rubber against Michal Przysiezny before 19-year-old debutant Dan Evans plays Jerzy Janowicz.

Murray's presence and home advantage makes Britain the favourites for the tie but the Scot insists nothing can be left to chance.

"I have got a match against a guy I don't know a whole lot about - that is normally tricky at the start of the match," he added.

"We need to prepare for a tough match. If you prepare for an easy match and it ends up being tough you can start to panic a little."

Evans gets his chance in the singles having been preferred to James Ward, who will sit on the sidelines along with local boy Ken Skupski and Colin Fleming at the Echo Arena.

He has a difficult first assignment as he makes his bow against a player in Janowicz who, at 261, is ranked 41 places above him.

Murray is due to team up with good friend Ross Hutchins in Saturday's tough doubles rubber against Marcin Matkowski and Mariusz Fyrstenberg, who are both ranked just outside the world's top 10.
