No good snooze for Goosen

14 April 2012

Retief Goosen has been disqualified from the Nissan Open golf tournament starting at the Riviera course in Los Angeles today because he overslept and missed his tee time for the pro-am event.

The South African, ranked fifth in the world, failed to get a requested wake-up call.

Mark Russell, a US Tour rules official, said: "If you miss your time in the pro-am, you can't play in the tournament. We never had any problem with Retief in any way, but he just overslept, missed his time and had to suffer the consequences."

Only two of the world's top 10 remain in the field - Tiger Woods and Mike Weir.
