New inquiry for trio after race-fix trial

Paul Fielder13 April 2012

The British Horseracing Authority today announced that they have launched an inquiry against trainer Karl Burke and jockeys Darren Williams and Fergal Lynch after reviewing evidence from the Old Bailey race-fixing trial.

Williams, Lynch, Kieren Fallon and former owner Miles Rodgers were acquitted of any wrongdoing over alleged race-fixing at the trial in 2007.

Fallon has already been told he will not face any further charges but Williams, Lynch and Burke - who was arrested but released without charge as part of the police investigation - will be called before a disciplinary panel with Rodgers.

Both jockeys and Middleham handler Burke face charges concerning their relationships with Rodgers and whether they supplied him with inside information over 12 races in 2004.

Lynch and Williams are also accused of failing to supply information requested by the BHA team while Lynch is also charged with betting via Rodgers and stopping a horse from running on its merits.

Burke faces additional accusations that he misled a BHA official and did not supply necessary information.

A date for the hearing is yet to be set.
